The Fair
No matter how old you are there is still a feeling of excitement when you think of the county fair. If you are like me and can't get on the rides anymore you still enjoy going. Those bright lights flashing, twirling and pulsing in the brillant colors in neon. The whirl of the ferris wheel, the clanging of bells on the cars, the melody from the merry-go-round blend with the laughter of the little ones and the shrieks of the older kids. As hubby and I walked around, the calls of the vendors, the lovely smells of popcorn, cotton candy and candy apples brought back many memories. Hubby and I were never a lover of rides as we both always seemed to get sick on them - but our girls loved them. The higher, faster and scarier they were the more they loved them. Needless to say Hubby and I were tickled to death when the girls were old enough to ride with each other without adult accompaniment. So when the girls were young we always went to the fair.
As hubby and I pass the concession wagon I remember so clearly how at every fair there stood hubby and the girls in line. Our oldest was our candy apple girl and the youngest was the cotton candy. That was always our last stop before leaving the fair. Then as we drove home our two girls would be fast asleep before we ever got home - all curled up in the backseat of the car tightly clutching their sugary treats.
Tonight we didn't ride the ferris wheel, try to win a prize at the games nor did we purchase candy apples or cotton candy. But hubby and I had a wonderful trip to the fair. For the small admission fee we walked through the fair, enjoyed the sights, sounds and smells and relived precious times through our memories.

Beautiful Mountain Ride
After church Sunday we took the doors off the jeep snd headed for the mountains. The temperature was just perfect, a nice breeze and lovely afternoon sunshine. The leaves are just barely turning but there was still some colors. In another week I believe the mountains will be in all their glory. We will be ready for another trip to enjoy God's artwork.

Deer morning..
As I went out to get in my jeep this morning my yard was filled with friends who wanted to say good morning.
I got a couple of pictures before they had to leave (guess they had more yarda to visit). I didn't get a photo with all of them together *there were 12 in all* !

Remembering those...
...who on this day 12 years ago gave it all for others
...who left behind families, friends, co-workers
...who answered a call to duty with no concern for themselves
...who left for work as they did every day not knowing what this day held..

Company arrives. ..
Last night the other campers began to arrive. I know when we get back to the campsite after work today the campground will be full.
The quiet time has been wonderful but we do not mind sharing. I love seeing the older couples but my favorite is the young families. Watching a Mom do sidewalk chalk with Suzie. ..seeing Dad teach Bobby to fish...families of bikes riding by and the laughter of children as they play are all Special sights and sounds of camping life. These all remind me of days gone by when our kids were small. But no sadness! We enjoy those days again with our grandchildren - only we can't last as long as we used to. :)
And until next time....Enjoy - Love - share and thank God for it all.

quiet time...
Hubby and I decided that the Labor Day Weekend was much too short for a proper camping trip so we extended it. Even though we had to return to work on Tuesday we reserved a campsite for the rest of the week ending on Sunday.
The campsite that we had was reseved for the weekend so we had to choose another one for our sudden vacation spot. It just so happened that a perfect spot right beside the lake was available (a last minute cancellation) so we took that one immediately. What a great surprise!
The first night we had a couple of neighboring campers but they were old-time campers like us so it was a quiet and peaceful night. We grilled hamburgers, built a campfire and enjoyed the sounds of the outdoors.
The second night we came in from work and found that we were the only campers in our section - perfect solitude! We enjoyed a night of grilled hotdogs, some fishing and just reading as the night sounds filled the air.
Our weather has been just awesome - sunshine during the day, cool nights with lovely stars and no rain. What more could a couple of campers ask for?
We will continue to enjoy our campsite vacation and may your day be filled with the joys of nature. Stay tuned....
